Xbox President, Sarah Bond, announced that the next Microsoft console will be a “very premium” and “very high-end” machine. The statement, made in an interview with Mashable and collected by The Verge, confirms that the company plans to bet on high-performance hardware and a curated experience for the most demanding public.
Xbox increasingly similar PC

During the conversation, Bond explained that the new device will represent a natural evolution of the Xbox ecosystem.. “The next console will be a very premium experience, very high-end and carefully designed. You can already see part of our focus on this portable device, but I don’t want to advance everything,” she said. The executive was referring to the ROG Xbox Ally X, the laptop developed alongside Asus that has caused controversy for its high price of a thousand dollars.
The case of the ROG Xbox Ally X has revived the debate on the limits between console and PC. Although Microsoft presents it as part of the Xbox family, the device is actually a gaming laptop with an optimized version of Windows. This trend is not new: both the Xbox Series X and the previous models work on a reduced version of the same operating system, which further blurs the border between both worlds.

The changes also reflect Microsoft’s strategy of focusing the Xbox brand on one rather than one device. The company has opted for compatibility between systems, cross-play and cloud service, allowing users to access their library from consoles, PCs or even mobiles. In Bond’s words, “The idea of limiting the game to a single store or device is outdated. We want people to play with their friends no matter what platform they are on.”
A premium console in uncertain times
The focus on a more expensive console comes at a complex time for the market. Hardware sales have fallen and Microsoft has faced criticism for the Recent price increases for the Xbox Series X and its services. Added to this is the perception that the new ROG Xbox Ally X, with such a high cost, has raised the bar of what could be expected from the next generation.

Despite the doubts, Bond assured that The company remains committed to the development of new consoles and devices. “We continue to actively invest in the future of our consoles and our first part hardware,” he said. This partially dispels rumors that Xbox would abandon the development of traditional consoles to focus on the game by cloud.
The end of affordable consoles?
If Microsoft maintains its current strategy, the next Xbox could mark the definitive goodbye to the economic consoles that for decades defined the industry. Turning to high-end systems Strengthens Xbox identity as an extension of the Windows ecosystem. Although there is room for reflection: will there still be space for those looking for a more accessible option?
With its vision ever closer to PC Gaming and a future focused on connectivity and power, the next generation of Xbox promises to break the borders between console and computer. However, they will also have to redefine what it means to be a console in the modern age of the video game.
