Synopsis of Black Torch:
Jirou Azuma, seventeen, lives a quiet life with his grandfather. He uses his supernatural ability to talk to animals to make friends with them and protect them. Both Jirou and his grandfather are descended from an old Shinobi clan. They train in combat to keep the art of battle alive within their family.
Jirou’s life is altered after rescuing a seemingly normal black cat, Ragou, and discovering that it is actually a Mononoke. It is a demonic spirit that has long been at war against humanity. When a hostile Mononoke comes in search of Ragou, Jirou uses his shinobi training to jump in defense of the cat. However, he immediately suffers a fatal injury.
Faced with the decision whether or not to devour Jirou’s energy, Ragou chooses to give Jirou the energy that remains. Thus, he regains all his power. By reviving the boy, the transfer also gives him great supernatural powers. These complement their own shinobi fighting style.
