La cuenta oficial de Twitter del estudio de animación TMS Entertainment anunció que encabezarán un proyecto para conmemorar el 50 aniversario de la franquicia Lupin III. La franquicia celebrará 5 décadas de existencia en 2021, y toda la información del proyecto será revelada próximamente.

El primer anime de Lupin se emitió en 1971 y TMS Entertainment fue el encargado de animarlo, en ese entonces bajo el nombre Tokyo Move.
Por otra parte Lupin III es una serie manga creada e ilustrada por Kazuhiko Kato (bajo el nombre de Monkey Punch) y publicada por la revista japonesa Weekly Manga Action por primera vez el 10 de agosto de 1967.
