Natsuki Hanae She is one of the most recognized voices in the anime world of recent years. Being that his appearance in many renowned works helped his career to be placed as one of the most important of all. Hanae is in charge of being the voice of Tanjiro Kamado of Demon Slayer (d)Kimetsu no Yaiba), Ken Kaneki of Tokyo Ghoul and 9s of Nier: Automata. among many other jobs. In this interview he tells us a little more about his character in Tougen Anki:
Juji is a complex character, who shows maturity at times and immature behavior at others, especially in matters related to his desires. How did you manage to balance these two facets of your personality in your interpretation?
Natsuki Hanae: I try to express both sides to the extreme. When he is lascivious and comic, I emphasize the perversity, and when it is the same as always, I try to make him a little more mature. I want to play the character in such a way that the difference between the two faces of his personality is clearly noticeable.
Can you share any memorable or fun experience while recording your lines?
Natsuki Hanae: What I remember most is that, during the breaks, Ura always had conversations and made an effort to encourage the atmosphere in the studio. I also remember that we went out to eat all together after recording. Ura has a unique charm that makes people love you. That made me envious. I am not like that.
What elements of Tougen Anki do you think will resonate the most among the international public?
Natsuki Hanae: Since the concept of “oni” is not widespread abroad, and most people are more familiar with “demons”, I think it is an exclusively Japanese and Asian aspect of the story. I think that will be interesting for the international public, and I also think that they will find very exciting the really unique skills that are used in the fight scenes.
Shogo Sakata Talk about his character Ikari Yaoroshi
Shogo Sakata He is a Japanese voice actor who has shone in very important works within this medium, since his name we meet characters like Aki Hayakawa of Chainsaw Man or Ryosuke Nishida of Blue Box, among many others. He shares a little more of his character’s personality within Tougen Anki, , Ikari Yaoroshi And as the anime will impact international audiences:
Lkari is a tough and sometimes impulsive guy. How do you channel their intensity into the fight scenes in your performance?
Shogo Sakata: Yes, I think that in the battle scenes it is one of those who get carried away by anger and go for all against the enemy from the beginning. Then, when he is cornered, the anger increases – not only against the enemy, but also against himself for not having been able to win- and that is when he shows what he is made of. When I acted, I concentrated on giving myself with all my might.
What elements of Tougen Anki Do you think they will resonate more among the international public?
Shogo Sakata: I hope they relate to the way the protagonist, Shiki, and the characters around him react to adversity, the decisions they make along the way and the way they decide to move on.
Manaka Iwami will give life to Homare Byobugaura and shares her sensations
Manaka Iwami She is a seiyuu who has been in the world of anime for several years, since her talent has led her to be in charge of giving life to a diverse number of characters, where we can meet familiar faces like the one of Akane Kurokawa of Oshi no ko or Amber on Genshin Impact. In this case, not only does he tell us much more about his character, Homare Byobugaurabut also tells some secrets when recording the young woman’s voice:
Homare is a shy girl with a complicated past. What was your biggest challenge when playing Homare?
Manaka Iwami: During the audition, I felt that I had really captured the essence of Homare’s character. But when the recording started, as it had been some time, at first I felt a little out of place when I tried to interpret it again.
At first, I portrayed her with a soft, childish tone, something different from what she had done in the audition. During the steering phase, I was told to express it more nervously and anxiously, like someone who strives to say what he thinks, not just meek or soft.
Hearing that helped me realize that the way I had interpreted it in the audition was really correct. Once I understood it, I was able to reconnect with that feeling and apply it to my interpretation.
The relationship between Homare and her sister Sumire is fundamental to its development. How will you approach that deep connection and the manifestation of its “Blood Titan” power, which Homare perceives as an extension of her sister?
Manaka Iwami: So far, on the recording, “Blood Titan” has only emerged once. But on that occasion, since he couldn’t run away from everything that had happened to him in the past, he kept thinking “I wish I could run away.” I acted (that part) with the thought that I couldn’t run away and I didn’t want to hurt the others, even though she was hurt herself.
Can you share some memorable or fun experience while recording your lines?
Manaka Iwami: I have only recorded a few episodes so far, but I would say it has been quite harmonious. We are always chatting in the studio. At the time we were recording, I really liked mobile games, so we talked about it. The main story has many heavy scenes, but I think we did the post-record in a very quiet environment.
What elements of Tougen Anki do you think will resonate the most among the international public?
Manaka Iwami: I think that abroad there are many people who like Japanese anime. Many of the series that have become popular lately are action titles or stories with many combat scenes. So I think you can enjoy that part of our series.
In the case of “Tougen Anki», being based on Japanese folklore, it is a story made in Japan with exclusively Japanese themes, which I think people will find interesting. And more importantly, all the characters are diverse and have attractive designs. Which means there should be a character that every international fan could fall in love with, so I hope you like that too.
