Synopsis for The Rising of the Shield Hero:
The Four Cardinal Heroes are a group of current Japan men summoned to the Kingdom of Melromarc to become their saviors. Melromarc is a country devastated by the waves of the catastrophe. These waves have repeatedly devastated the land and brought disaster to its citizens for centuries.
The four heroes receive respectively a sword, a spear, a bow, and a shield to beat these waves. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, is cursed with the fate of being the “shield hero.” Armed only with a miserable shield, Naofumi is despised and ridiculed by his fellow heroes. Also, the people of the kingdom despise him due to his poor offensive capacity and lackluster personality.
When the heroes receive resources and companions to train with, Naofumi leaves with the only person willing to train by his side, Malty Melromarc. However, he is soon betrayed by her and is falsely accused of taking advantage of her. Naofumi is then strongly discriminated against and hated by the people of Melromarc for something he has not done.
With a furious storm of pain and mistrust in her heart, Naofumi begins her journey. His goal is to strengthen himself and his reputation.
